Sunflower Necklace, Vintage Tribal Brass Red Garnet Handmade Jewelry

Big and bold for the woman who loves exquisite statement jewelry, the NHWIREN handmade necklace is a real beauty and a definite conversation piece! A large 2.5” / 7.0 cm vintage brass tribal sunflower pendant is the star of the show, along with big natural red garnet gemstone rounds and copper. The eye-catching pendant was artisan cast in Ghana in the mid-20th century from brass. The glowing brass pendant has a stylised tribal sunflower design with wonderful texture, almost as if it has been etched. The center of the round pendant is filled with four floral designs, each one somewhat different. Surrounding the center flowers is a design consisting of intricate pointed flower petals with a cross hatched vibe. The outer band is filled with flowing, curving vines and small leaves. Even the pendant’s bail has a flower on it. The back of the sunflower pendant is smooth with a vintage bronze gleam.
Since all sunflowers are not yellow (see “Red Sun” sunflowers), natural red almandine garnet gemstone rounds were chosen to mimic the red of those flowers. The AA quality almandine garnet is not dyed or color enhanced in any way, like much of the garnet seen today. The garnet is a rich dark red color, sometimes looking almost black, has a highly reflective polish and glimmers in good light. Between the first six garnet rounds are 5 mm copper beads for added glow. The last rounds are separated by 3 mm copper beads. A sleek copper toggle clasp set finishes the necklace. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the NHWIREN necklace is a perfect jewelry gift for the woman who loves floral designs and wearing one of a kind, artisan jewelry! “Nhwiren” is Twi (the major language spoken in Ghana) for “flowers.” Please note: because of the size of the brass pendant and the almandine garnet gemstones, this is a heavier necklace.

The NHWIREN artisan necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.
