Created from aquamarine blue Czech glass teardrop beads, the one of a kind earrings also feature gold Swarovski crystals, copper and sterling silver. The gorgeous teardrops were created from translucent aquamarine blue glass with a classic five-petaled lotus impressed into both sides. To add an antiqued look and to bring out the details of the lotus, a metallic bronze PIcasso finish was added which settled into the recessed areas and the “pits” and “cracks” of the glass. The translucent aquamarine glass glows beautifully when the earrings are worn. Since the flower teardrops are two-sided, the earrings look fabulous from any angle when worn.
Above each lotus flower teardrop is a sparkling faceted Swarovski crystal bicone coated in a special finish called “rose gold.” The gold coating ramps up the sparkle of the crystals at each movement when the earrings are worn. A small copper bead caps the top and bottom of each crystal. Sterling silver French hook earwires with copper bead accents finish the amazing earrings. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the SHANTI lotus flower earrings were created for the woman who loves yoga and also loves one of a kind artisan made jewelry! “Shanti” is Hindi for “peace.”

Symbolism of the lotus blossom: The padma (Nelumbo nucifera, the sacred lotus) is an aquatic plant, often growing in muddy water, that plays a central role in many religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, and, most recently, Baha’i. Because the lotus rises from muddy waters and blooms as a brilliantly pure, gorgeous flower, it is thought of as a symbol of human consciousness on the path to spiritual enlightenment. In Buddhism, the lotus is symbolic of a person’s path through life. The lotus seed stage represents the early stage of the karmic cycle. During the next stage, the bud travels through the muddy water emerging on the surface into light - this represents following the path of spirituality, leaving attachments behind. Finally when lotus blossoms, a person has become fully awakened and has achieved nirvana.
