The CONCHAS BONITAS handmade earrings are a perfect jewelry gift for the beach lover! The one of a kind beauties feature two sided Thai fine silver shell charms, colorful shell heishe, Swarovski crystals and sterling silver. The scallop shell charms were made in the highlands of Thailand using traditional methods. Individually artisan crafted from fine silver, they have a warm, heirloom silver glow. Thai fine silver has a higher silver content (95% to 99%) than sterling silver (92.5%). The shell charms are fan shaped with a recessed “rib” design on both sides for wonderful texture. They were given a dark patina and then highly polished, leaving the recessed ribs darker to bring out the detail. Because they were individually handmade, the shells are very similar but also just a bit different. Since the fine silver scallop shells are two-sided, the earrings look wonderful from any angle when worn.
Colorful shell heishe and a Swarovski crystal are found above each fine silver shell charm, complementing them perfectly. The colorful shell heishe were hand cut from the shells of the rainbow scallop: the natural colors range from pink, purple, yellow, white and red. The heishe is not perfectly flat but rather somewhat wavy, each with its own uniqueness. A faceted “light amethyst AB” Swarovski crystal bicone, separated by a small sterling bead, sits above the shell heishe. An aurora borealis (AB) finish on 1⁄2 of the crystals was added for extra sparkle. To add more sparkle, a light amethyst AB Swarovski crystal was added to each sterling silver French hook earwire. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the CONCHAS BONITAS earrings will make a wonderful jewelry gift for the woman who has a huge dose of mermaid in her soul! “Conchas bonitas” is Spanish for “pretty shells.”
- Thai Hill Tribes fine silver shells: app. 8 mm x 14 mm at the widest (0.31” x 0.55”)
- Rainbow scallop shell heishe: app. 5 mm x 1 mm (0.20” x 0.04”); some a bit bigger, some a bit smaller
